The Chix

Cheryl Hood

Over the last 20 years Cheryl has completed numerous small renovation projects, including: installing a bathroom, refinishing doors, installing tile, hardwood and laminate flooring.

Cheryl also enjoys figuring out challenging problems. Recently she resolved a minor flooding issue in a home by discovering that the air conditioner line was kinked.

She has enjoyed doing some creative work and constructing some unique objects over the years. For example, covering an existing vent to redirect air flow under a cabinet and creating a hoist system for storing kayaks.

Growing up, Cheryl always had an interest in taking apart and fixing things. To keep her happy—and away from their appliances—her grandparents would give her a box of nails, a stump and a hammer and Cheryl would pound nails for hours, perfecting the right technique. She also spent hours in her grandfather’s machine shop, watching the machinists work and helping out whenever she was allowed.

In 2008, she took on the task of renovating her 1 ½ story post-war home. It was then that she discovered how little information there was available specifically geared to women who wanted to do their own renovations.

In 2010, Cheryl stepped out on her own, armed with a hammer and a business concept centred on empowering women (and men) who want to roll up their sleeves and get their hands dirty. So now you can be DIY CHIX too.
